Every Face Is Wonderfully Unique
Changing things up this week and talking about one of my deepest passions in the world of photography: PORTRAITURE
Since I formally began my journey with a camera about 11 years ago, I’ve photographed many, many different things and I’ve experimented a lot. From food photography, to landscapes, fashion, you name it! However, photographing faces in different ways has been a constant since day one as I’ve always been so intrigued by humans.
Connection & Observation
To me, it’s not enough to understand lighting, composition, color etc. Taking a strong portrait requires the ability to develop a personal connection with the subject. There’s an intimacy and vulnerability that goes into the process of capturing someone in a way that feels pure and organic. Looking through the view finder to examine the full face is always a fascinating experience for me and I feel like I look at faces the way scientists look at organisms under a microscope. Paying close attention to all the subtle expressions, small movements, angles, eye gaze, changes in lighting and much more. Then the magic occurs when all the pieces come together to create a set of images that captures the essence of someone. Even if the subject is “posing” for the picture. People are just so darn interesting and a single photo can tell you so much about someone. How wild is that?
Here’s are a small selection of some of my favorite portraits I’ve taken over the years. I hope you enjoy and hope this inspires you to look at faces in a new way!

Amazing portraits, Parker!
These are stunning! I have questions. Is it always better for the subject to not to smile in portraits? And how do you get them to feel comfortable and act natural?
